OSHAWA SENIORS NEWSLETTER ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY
FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER
Pat Schleiffer
My interest in photography began
in high school, as a member of the
camera club. I learned how to
develop film, which led me to a
part-time job in university, working
on developing black and white
negatives for a professor. Later, as a geography teacher, I travelled
extensively taking slides of everything related to the subjects I
taught – landscape, wildlife, economics (visiting fish tanneries,
Athabasca tar sands, etc.) and urban areas. I think this is what
instilled in me the passion of photography, wanting to document
everywhere I went and all that I saw.
Once my sons were born, I focused on documenting everything
they did. This desire to photograph family, especially now with
five grandchildren, has not abated. My son often tells me to put
down the camera and enjoy the moment. My answer is that if I
take a photo of the moment, I can enjoy it longer, especially if
my memory fails me.
When my sons went to university I
sought ways to fill my time, and found
Lynde Shores. The abundance of
animal life prompted me to buy my first
digital camera, and I haven’t looked
back. As a member of two senior
camera clubs, my interest has expanded
into other aspects of photography,
including processing and varied
subjects, such as street photography.
What the heck – I will photograph
almost anything. I enjoy the people I
have met and the close friends I have
gained as a result of this pastime.
