THE ART OF MOTOCROSS PHOTOGRAPHY

This photo was taken on July 25, 2015 at Kingston, Ontario
where they were having a motocross event right in front of
City Hall. The riders were jumping from one inclined
wooden ramp to another reaching a height of about 40
feet. I tried to get a vantage point to get the blue sky
background and avoid as much as possible the nearby
buildings.

I took some sample shots on my Canon 7D Mark II with the
24mm to 105mm lens to get my exposure correct. Exposure
was set at 1/3200 sec, f/6.3, ISO 800 with the lens set at
45mm. I used hi speed continuous shooting, with 45 points
auto focusing and auto white balance.

Processing was done in Adobe Lightroom with the image
cropped to about one quarter of its size. I could have used a
longer focal length but it would have been difficult to keep
the subject in the frame.
