Third-Party Network Leasing

The Problem

• Dental insurers rent or lease the “in-network” relationship they have

established with a dentist to another entity

• Often does not require the dentist’s consent; part of the initial

contract signed

• Can opt dentists into a larger patient base and discounted fees

Potential Legislative Fix

• Require insurers to have transparent contract provisions

• Give dentists an opportunity to opt out of the network leasing

component or refuse the contract
