Assignment of Benefits (AoB)
The Problem
• Patient selects an out-of-network dentist and wants insurance
payment to go directly to the provider
• Insurer refuses to make direct claim payments resulting in:
• Patient paying out of pocket at time of service; or
• Dentist must pursue collections after services are provided
Potential Legislative Fix
• Insurer must honor a covered patient’s request to have claim
payment sent directly to provider
