Part V — Making It Testable (Six-Step Cycle in Action)
Chapter 18
Falsifiers (What Would Change My Mind)
A theory lives by its risks; only what can fail with evidence can stand with strength.
A serious theory must declare what would kill it. Darwin wrote:
“If it could be
demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have
been formed by numerous successive slight modifications, my theory would
absolutely break down.
” Einstein said:
“If the bending of light is not observed,
then my theory is wrong.
”
APH follows this same principle. It will live or die by evidence.
Falsifier 1 — Continuous Symbolic Tradition Before 150kya
Test: If archaeologists uncover unbroken symbolic artifacts (art, ritual,
notation) across 300–150kya, APH collapses.
Why: APH requires a long “silent genome” phase (ṣalṣāl). Continuous
symbolic buildup would prove gradualism.
Probability: <5% chance under APH,
~70% under gradualism.
APH expectation:
From 300k–150kya, humans had modern bodies but a “silent genome”
(ṣalṣāl). Symbolic culture should be absent or appear only as scattered
sparks that don’t persist.
So the chance of finding a continuous symbolic tradition in this period is
very low — less than 5%.
Gradualism expectation:
If cognition evolved slowly, symbols should gradually accumulate through
this whole window. Archaeologists should find beads, engravings, or ritual
traces appearing more and more often between 300k and 150kya.
That means the chance of seeing continuous symbolic buildup is relatively
high — about 70%.
