I’ve met some people who are afraid of anything
that comes close to “imagery” believing it is from
the devil and opens the door for malicious
interferences.
To the contrary, knowing how to use one’s
imagination for good is a God-given gift we all
possess.
We all know how to awfulize or catastrophize. That
is using our imagination, in a negative manner.
Why not learn to use it for our benefit?
Here is an example of awfulizing.
My youngest daughter (around 16-year-old at the
time) asked me to take her to Red Rock Canyon,
west of Las Vegas. She wanted to go on a hike, as
she felt the need to relax. I drove her there. She
asked me to pick her back up a few hours later,
which I did.
On the drive back to pick her up, my mind started
to play tricks on me. “Don’t you know Red Rock
Canyon is a dangerous place? They have found
cadavers there. What if she has disappeared? What
if you never find her? How irresponsible you are!”
I soon realized I was awfulizing. My kids and I had
enjoyed watching the series CSI-Las Vegas… and of
