the colours beneath. I look at photographs
to create colour palettes for each piece of
fabric, and while harmonious colours can
be calm and satisfying, I find that nothing

       excites like an unexpected combination.
Amazingly, I’ve found that no matter how
weird the colour combinations I choose,
       someone somewhere will like them!

Not only is every completed piece of fabric
unique, but every part of the surface is too.
As a child I was fascinated by the play of
light on running water. I would spend hours
watching how objects and surfaces were
       continually distorted, hidden and revealed
beneath a shimmering surface. Much of my

work revolves around finding the new twists
and surprising effects that grow from
continually exploring a familiar set of
       processes.

Once the fabric is complete, I cut out shapes
based on paper templates I have tried out,
and then apply more machine embroidery

and edge stitching. I twist the piece into
a three-dimensional form and stitch it in
place, then hand stitch and embellish with
       crystals or other finishing touches.

Textiles is a fascinating medium, allowing
infinite variations in texture, colour, and
form. Having retired, I have more time to
spend creating (or at least I would if the
garden would relent!) and I’m looking
forward to starting some new projects and
commissions. If you have any questions or
