Wendy Horner is a self-taught
Mixed Media Textile artist based in
the UK. She lives in a
beautiful coastal working
fishing village called Mevagissey on
the south Cornish coast, with her
partner, 9-year-old son and two
mischievous Patterdale Terriers.
Her home studio is light and airy,
but isn’t perhaps what you would
expect, as she works from her
converted dining room, from the
dining room table. As a complete
hoarder and stasher of fabrics, her
studio is packed full of
collected items such as; dried
seaweed, beach glass, buttons and
pottery shards (found on
local beaches and in Cornish
fields). Stacks of Handmade
papers can be found too, a variety
of coloured threads, fabrics and
fibres, along with an array of pots
of paint brushes, pencils,
applicators, paints and textured
products. She never throws very
much away as her father once said
“you are never short of what you’ve
got” so keeps lots of things as they
somehow seem to be ideas just
waiting to happen.
Wendy is a qualified Adult
Education Teacher, now retired
from college teaching, who worked
with Skills for Life students in
addition to students with
Autistism or with special needs,
interpreting the curriculum as
much as possible through art.
Although Wendy has no formal art
Wendy Horner - creating by the sea needlework many years ago at
qualification, she studied Dress/
school and rediscovered her love
of sewing two years ago hasn’t
stopped since.
