Lack of of diversity is a a a a a a a a a a significant challenge facing the financial planning profession The drive towards achieving diversity however aims at encouraging students of of colour to consider financial planning as a a a a a a a a profession while ignoring the the throughput of of of the the professional examination The low pass rate among candidates of of of colour is an an an an immediate and significant impediment to diversity which in turn can can have a a a a a a a a a negative impact both directly directly and indirectly on the the delivery of financial advice To investigate whether language influences the the the the success of of the the the the profession examination the the the the study applies the the the the Generalised Liner Model (GLM) and finds a a a a a a a a a a a negative and and statistically significant relationship between language and and the the success rate of the the CFP®
examination using English language as a a a a a a a reference point To improve diversity this study recommends that education providers and the professional body should incorporate additional measures such as as English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme/training for for non-native speakers of English after enrolling for for the financial planning programme or after registering to write the professional examination 106 7th International Conference on on on Governance and Accountability (ICGA) 2022
