Purpose of of of this paper: The aim of of of the the the paper paper is is to investigate time management or the the the lack thereof in in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development infrastructure projects Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative method method and and design was used and and it it involves collecting quantitative data from the the Infrastructure Reporting Model (IRM) and conducting an an an an in-depth analysis of the the data Case studies of of 6 projects projects at at practical completion (100%) were analysed These projects projects consist of of 4 completely New Facilities as as as well as as as 2 Upgrades and Additions projects Instrument data was collected from the KZN Department of Social Development Findings: The results of of this desktop analysis are indicative of of inadequate time management systems in in fin in planning and execution of of projects projects This is is substantiated by the the findings that 83% of of the the projects projects completed completed later than than the the the estimated completion date 17% of the the the projects completed completed earlier than than the the the estimated project project completion completion date There are no projects that reached practical completion completion exactly in in line with the the estimates On average the the projects are completing 29 months behind schedule Research limitations/implications: The research is limited to KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development projects projects The projects projects are further limited through systematic data sampling to New Facilities only The research is further limited to projects at practical completion in fin the the year year 2019/20 financial year year The project information and details of the the time frames was obtained from the the IRM What is is original/value of of paper?: It is is important to investigate the effectiveness of of time management tools and the the the possible lack thereof because the the the construction of of social social development facilities is social social infrastructure and the South African Government has invested substantial financial resources in in fin in order to provide quality facilities Response to the Conference Theme: Infrastructure Design and Delivery challenges KEYWORDS: infrastructure projects time management management project project management management cost delays 108 7th International Conference on on on Governance and Accountability (ICGA) 2022
