Not meeting the KPI is attributed to the Faculty of Health Sciences not meeting its Foundation year enrolment targets in the Dental Technology programme due to longstanding professional
body accreditation challenges. The Homeopathy programme did not meet its enrolment target due to post- graduation employment prospects and the long duration of the programme. The Emergency Medical Care Higher Certificate course that was part of an MoU in 2021 with a partner was never offered but was listed on the DUT enrolment plan.
DUT, with two other universities offering the Dental Technology programme, continues to actively work to resolve
the challenges with the dental professional body (SADTC). A review
of the Homeopathy programme will
be conducted (including a review of
its duration). Specific marketing and engaging target schools will continue.
The Emergency Medical Care Higher Certificate programme has been removed from the enrolment plan as the partner institution now offers it as an accredited programme. The focused recruitment strategy will be reviewed and adjusted to meet the KPI.

A significant return of pipeline students has contributed to the positive deviation. High over-enrolments in the prior four years also contributed to the overall increase in the 2024 headcount. Ongoing interventions, focused on data-driven holistic student support, will effectively help in improving throughput and reducing the retention of pipeline students. Closer data monitoring of UG enrolments to remain within the set KPI target of a 2% deviation is required for the forthcoming years.
