In 2024 the University registered 4,139 (12%) more female students than male students, representing a proportionate increase of 1.4% from 2023 to 2024 (Fig. 3). This increase was especially evident in undergraduate diploma and degree enrolments. In 2024 females slightly outnumbered males, making up 52.65% of the enrolment in the PG segment. Figure 5 shows the increasing trend in the proportion of female students within the University’s total enrolment since 2015.

Enrolments by field of study
Enrolments by field of study are crucial in the Universities of Technology sector, with a strong emphasis on increasing overall participation in Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET), particularly among female students. The University recorded a slight 2% rise in SET enrolments, from 39% to 41%, between 2023 and 2024. However, enrolments in SET PG programmes experienced a decline, dropping from 5.7% in 2023 to 5.4% in 2024. In terms of enrolments in other fields of study, Business/Commerce increased by 1% (42% to 43%) of total enrolments from 2023 to 2024, with a slight surge in PG students up to Master’s qualifications, increasing from 1.48% in 2023 to 1.75% in 2024. Humanities enrolments stayed steady at 12%, while Education enrolments fell by 2% (from 6% to 4%) between 2023 and 2024. Figure 4 shows these enrolment trends across different fields of study.
