MR CRISPIN HEMSON Mr Crispin Hemson who recently retired from DUT received an an an award recognizing his outstanding contribution and and excellent service in in community engagement during his time at the university In addition to teaching in in the General Education Programme he he led the Durban Innovative Leadership Programme which cultivates leadership skills in DUT students and community activists As an an environmental activist he he he also heads the Friends of Pigeon Valley a a a a a group dedicated to protecting an an urban nature reserve in in Glenwood Durban COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AMBASSADOR AWARD
MS NOMFUNDO MBATHA
The late Ms Mbatha has significantly impacted community engagement by supporting student initiatives focused on gender issues As a a a a lecturer in the Department of Information and Corporate Management
she has guided student leaders secured venues and and provided transportation and and financial assistance for food parcel collections and school visits Her work fosters mutually beneficial collaborations aligning with ENVISION2030’s goals of applying knowledge practically and developing future-ready graduates Through her dedication Ms Mbatha empowers students and strengthens community ties
