P. 22
In brief, the report shows the university’s performance in relation to its student success rate, efficiency and the research output indicators. Balancing our staff/student ratios remains an area for improvement. It is a work in progress that is bolstered by our institutional review process. A decline in performance is noted in our 3rd stream income generation; therefore, attention is being focused on crafting a 3rd stream income framework and strategy. We exceeded our targets for staff with doctoral degrees and the number of postdoctoral Fellows.
The legend is based on three-tier coloured arrow signs.

The 2023 undergraduate graduates met the target within 0.5% (35 students), indicating institutional normalisation and progress following COVID-19.
Our assessment practices, especially
the return to face-to-face and contact examinations across all faculties, have contributed to this achievement. Further, the 22.4% decrease in graduates from 2022 to 2023 has also influenced this outcome.

In 2023, the graduation rate was 1% below target and 5% lower than the rate achieved in 2022. The performance difference was nearly 20%, which underscores our robust assessment and examination practices, reflecting
a more realistic student success value. Interventions are necessary to counter this decline and sustain a graduation rate above 25%. Overall enrolment also plays a significant role here, and based on our planned systems for 2025, we anticipate overcoming this bottleneck effect.

Overall, there is a decline in success rate from 89%. The success rate fell from 84.32% in 2022 to 81.14% in 2023. The decline is partly attributable to the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment faculty, which completed a success rate of approximately 65%. A task team has been formed to enhance overall performance metrics in Engineering and address at-risk modules across all faculties, aiming to achieve a target success rate of 88%.
