8.2.6. Safety Health and Environment Office
The SHE Office has the following responsibilities in the event of a water outage or water quality issue:
DISASTER CONDITIONS:
1) Liaise with PPO with regards to the nature of the water outage or water quality issue.
2) Provide support, as required, to the CRT, and respond to any queries regarding any health and safety risks associated with the water outage or water quality issue.
8.2.7 Housing Committee members (HSM)
On receiving notification of a water outage or water quality issue, the HSM the following responsibilities:
1) Ensure that PPO or the PSD have been notified
immediately of the outage or water quality issue.
2) Ensure that building occupants observe the steps that are put into effect by a water outage or water
quality issue, namely:
Use water sparingly (should it be available).
• No washing, showering, or bathing to take
place.
• Use buckets to draw water from tanks (where
provided)
3) Ensure that buckets are available for building occupants to draw water from tanks.
4) Ensure that all taps are turned off (in the event of the water supply being restored).
Communicate with building occupants about the status of the outage or water quality issue
8.2.8 University Employees
In the event of a water outage or water quality issue, all affected university employees and students should:
1) Follow the simple set of standing instructions issued
to members of the wider university community
outlining What to do in an Emergency or Disaster.
2) Ensure that PPO has been notified of the outage or
water quality issue.
3) Assist the Floor Marshalls as required.
8.2.9 CRT Procedures
In the event of a water outage or water quality issue, the Chair of the CRT has the following responsibilities:
1) If necessary, declare a disaster or an emergency and
notify all members of the Management Team.
2) Monitor the situation and assist as necessary.
3) Keep the VC or designee informed.
