HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT INTERVENTION
IN 2023/24
Two-Year Scriptwriting Programme
The Scriptwriting programme’s second year was held during the 2023/24 financial year. The programme concluded with a final workshop on November 4-6, 2023. At the end of the financial year, the 19 participants were awarded their certificates and software, marking the completion of the project.
Schools Programme
This was a two-year programme that closed at the end of the 2023/24 financial year. A total number of five schools participated in the programme of which two of them were schools for children living with disabilities.
Drone Technology
The drone program was one of the scarce skills programs identified by the entity to assist filmmakers in venturing into this unique field. Seven participants enrolled in the program, and five completed it within the set time frame by March 31st, 2024. The graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place in the 2024/25 financial year. The remaining two participants were unable to complete the ground school due to work commitments.
BVLOS Drone Technology
The BVLOS Drone operations provide numerous advantages over regular line-of-sight flying. It requires less human intervention as some or all of the mission may be automated, it allows easier access to remote or hazardous areas and carries more safety concerns. It is one step above the drone licence which is within Vision Line of Sight.
Our BVLOS drone programme is an SMME development programme, an accredited programme with the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) whereby there is a ground school and flight school. After the SMME has completed the programme, they obtain a Remote Pilot Licence.
Five out of 11 completed the programme and they were sent the Thank You letters for completion. 6 participants still have to attempt the exams so that they can move to the physical examination.
