KWAZULU-NATAL FILM COMMISSION
Animation and VFX internship (MICT SETA Funded)
Katanimate Animation Studios (a client at the Cluster) was appointed as the service provider for Animation and VFX internship. Ten interns were selected for this programme and they started on 31 January 2023 and completed on 31 January 2024. Graduation was held on 16 March 2024. Seven interns were absorbed as full-time employees by Katanimate Animation Studio.
Location Scouting Training Programme (MICT SETA Funded) and Work
Readiness programme
This programme started in February 2023 and concluded in April 2023. The programme was conducted under Ugu District Municipality at the Esayidi TVET college.
The 10 participants then went through a 3-month work readiness with experienced location scouts in Cape Town and Durban.
NQF Level 5 Film and TV Learnership Programme (MICT SETA Funded)–
Groutville
The program began in January 2023 with 28 students enrolled. However, due to dropouts, only 23 students completed the MICT SETA accredited NQF Level 5 Film and TV Production qualification learnership program designed to equip youth, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the necessary professional filmmaking skills, knowledge, and expertise in KZN. The graduation ceremony took place in November 2023, where the learners were informed of the various options available to them from KZNFilm during an information-sharing session.
NQF 4 Film and TV Learnership Programme (UMzimkhulu)
The aim of this project was to provide young individuals, particularly those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, with the necessary professional skills, knowledge, and expertise in the field of filmmaking. This was achieved by offering a MICT SETA accredited NQF Level 4 Film and TV Production Operations learnership programme for KZN filmmakers. A total of 30 individuals began the programme, out of which 27 successfully completed it. The graduation ceremony is scheduled for the new financial year.
