THE SEED PROJECT 2021 PARTNERSHIP WITH UMLAZI MEGACITY
The Centre partnered with Broll SA (property group) and UMlazi Megacity Mall for the SEED project. After the unrest where UMlazi Megacity was destroyed, Broll Property and UMlazi Megacity wanted to provide a business opportunity for an entrepreneur from UMlazi to win a free kiosk set-up, a start-up business consulting package, and rent-free space for a year, all valued at R300 000. We received over 100 entries, and shortlisted 24 businesses. The winner of the competition was Nolwazi Cele, founder of Balloons Express from UMlazi. Nolwazi took the first prize because of her services that offer convenience for UMlazi community especially those who rely on public transport. Ballon Express delivers inflated helium balloons to the shopper’s doorstep. Nolwazi is currently being supported through the CSERI incubation programme.
