Grapplers pinned by experience
One thing that is never heard from a member of the CBA Wrestling Team is "get off my back." This is because the wrestlers have learned to keep others off their backs by put ting them on their own backs. However, this does not happen often enough for coaches Dean DeSantis and Brother Brendan.
There were, however, some individuals who fared well on their own. Steve Rourke, Tom Gilligan, and Kirk Herrl ing, all returning from last year’s team, were three such exam ples. Rourke’s season, in particular, was highlighted in a victory over an undefeated West Genesee wrestler.
Lack of experience was the biggest problem that the team had. Yet, in working with a young group, the future is always brighter. This year’s squad is no exception. Its potential is evident in the many fine young wrestlers who populate the lower weight classes.Jim DeYulio and Bob Lyons, both of whom were on the team the previous year, showed tremen dous improvement, as well as Louis Santaro, who had a pin in a close loss to arch-rival Bishop Ludden. Freshman Scott Barcza and eighth-grader Roger Briggs also showed great promise for the future.
