— Golf Swings Into Action —
The thermometer read a cool 26 degrees as the Brothers' linksters got off to a chilling start by losing to North Syracuse at windswept Northern Pines Country Club. This haggard beginning proved to be ironic as the CBA golf team went on to one of the most successful season in ten years.
The team led by Kent Hitchcock, Jim McNeill, Kevin Britt, Bill Hyde and Joe Mancuso rebounded from their disappointing league opener by sending six players to the sectional qualifiers at Thendera Country Club. CBA moved into the Eastern Division where they faced perennial champion Rome Free Academy who had dominated league activity for the past three years.
The Brothers changed all of that with an exciting three point victory over RFA for the Eastern divisions’s Class A Crown. The win was even more encourag ing in light of the fact that it was the first time the team had qualified for sectional play in six years.
The season ended with the awarding of most valuable player acknowledge ment to Sophomore Kent Hitchcock. The large number of returning golfers indicates a promising future.
