"Sacco Singers Singout"
The gym vibrated with resonant voices, to the waving of the conductor’s arms and the crashing chords of a piano. Was it the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on tour or the Boys from Vienna on a road trip.^
Just in case you couldn’t tell the difference by ear, they were the now-famous Sacco Singers. The dynamic, arm- waving figure was their mentor Mr. Sacco. The voices belong to three or four dozen handpicked practitioners of perfect pitch. Members of all four classes joined vocal chords to brighten the many functions at which they performed, such as school liturgies and Mother’s Club parties.
These brief appearances were the product of a great deal of practice punctuated by colorful phrases unique to their conductor. "Ritard the endings”, and "BOUNCE” could be heard emanating from the Music Room. "Okay, who’s off key.^” was the flustered comment of their harried maestro. While there was some confusion over the relative acoustics of the Music Room and gym, everyone could hear (and never forget) the call to "Singout!”.
But the practice paid off, particularly during the Christmas season, when they were most in demand at the social functions of CBA. No, they aren’t travelling to Utah, but their talent and willingness are just as award winning.
