Valentine's Day Sugar Cookies

Yield: 2 dozen medium cookies
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon almond extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ (16 ounce) package white confectioners' coating (such as
CANDIQUIK), or as needed
1 (3 ounce) bar red candy melts (such as Wilton), or as
needed
Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step 2
Beat butter and sugar together in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with
a paddle attachment until smooth. Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond
extract.
Step 3
Combine flour and baking powder in a separate bowl and add to the
butter mixture, a little at a time. Stir until well combined. Knead using
wet fingers if dough gets too stiff, dusting with flouring occasionally,
until it bounces back.
