Jo’s Gingerbread

Makes 30 cookies

The instructions here explain how to decorate your cookies to look like the four March
sisters, but you can also decorate your gingerbread however you like. If you’re feeling
ambitious, you can even make other characters from the book: Laurie, Marmie, John
Brooke, Professor Bhaer, and even Meg’s children!

INGREDIENTS

4 cups flour

1½ teaspoons baking soda
2¼ teaspoons ginger

1¼ teaspoons cinnamon

½ teaspoon allspice
¾ teaspoon ground cloves

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened
¼ cup shortening

½ cup brown sugar, packed

¼ cup granulated sugar
1 egg

¾ cup molasses
Icing and sprinkles in various colors
