 Rosie Stancer Biography
Rosie Stancer embarked on her maiden expedition to the North Pole with a team of other British women, in 1997. As a British first, the expedition was a triumph, receiving global media and press coverage. Since that initial expedition, Rosie has completed 4 further expeditions of increasing severity to both North and South Poles. Two of these were undertaken solo, both of which were record-breaking but all the more remarkable for raising the bar in the field of polar exploration. The South Pole expedition, undertaken solo and without resupplies, broke all previous speed records. On her solo north pole bid, another world record was achieved for having spent the longest period of time (84 days) alone on 5 million square miles of the frozen ocean ice and reaching the farthest point north than any other woman. This record still stands and given the speed of global climate changes, is likely to remain ‘a last’.
Each expedition Rosie undertakes is in aid of Special Olympics GB and hitherto has enjoyed the Royal Patronage of HRH Prince Charles. Research is undertaken into meteorology and she is passionately dedicated to the physiological research, which earned her an honorary doctorate.
A champion of “ exploration must leave a legacy for others”, Rosie gives educational talks and motivational presentations, joins debates and discussion panels, to a variety of audiences from schools to corporates.
With a dramatic swing from ice to sand, solo to a team of nine, Rosie is currently mounting the first female-led expedition through the deadly Taklamakan Desert in the far west of china, with a team made up of British, Chinese, Uighurs and 20 Bactrian camels. The caravan will set off in the autumn of 2018.
