A CAPE is generally one-and-a-half stories,
with a steep roof with dormers. The facade is
typically simple and unadorned.
A BI-LEVEL opens to face two half-flights
of stairs, one leading up to the majority of
the living space — the kitchen, dining room,
and some bedrooms — and the other leading
down, often to 1-2 bedrooms, a family room or
study, laundry room, and perhaps a garage.
The SPLIT-LEVEL has multiple levels of living
space — usually family room and garage on
the lower level (while still not underground),
then dining area and kitchen on the middle
(main) level, and bedrooms above. Other ways
of splitting the floors are available as well.
