Choosing an Inspector
Home inspections are as thorough as the home inspector hired, as it is
based on the experience and the observational prowess of the inspector. The
purchase of a home is a huge investment with long-term ramifications, so be
sure to research the inspector and make sure he comes highly recommended.
You can also check for certification like InterNACHI, which indicate additional
training and accountability.
While the State of New Jersey requires all home inspectors to be licensed and
insured, there are additional qualifications you may choose to look for. Some
home inspectors also perform mold, termites, lead, or other inspections,
which may be warranted in some homes. In Lakewood, some houses are
prone to water damage, so discuss with your inspector, agent, and/or attorney
whether you should request additional inspections.
Some inspectors will provide a checklist-style report, while others will compile
a narrative-style report with more in-depth description. Ask to see a sample
