T he Church School held its Thanksgiving Breakfast and Program to kick off Bethel’s Annual
Thanksgiving Basket Distribution. The theme for this year’s community outreach effort was
“Bethelites Caring and Sharing.” In addition to food and fellowship, the program, coordinated
by Brother Ephraim Bryant, included a review of the Church School lesson by Brother
                       Warren Bowers.
The Church School Annual Easter Egg Hunt, held the day before Easter, provided much fun, food, and
enjoyment for all. Thanks to the congregation for its generosity in providing approximately 65 dozen
eggs for our children as well as children from the community. Approximately 15 prizes were given away.
About 70 young people participated. Refreshments, including hotdogs, potato chips, jellybeans, cookies,
pizza, and punch. Thanks to Brother Ephraim Bryant for the exceptional leadership he provides annu-
ally for the Easter Egg Hunt.

In response to the increase in active shooter incidents in Tallahassee and throughout the country, the
Tallahassee Police Department was invited to give a presentation on how to respond to an active shoot-
er incident at Bethel. General information such as the definition of an active shooter, the importance of
prior preparation, and being aware of one’s environment was shared. A second presentation is planned
that will provide information tailored specifically for Bethel’s location, layout, and particular training re-
quirements. Thanks to Sister Connie Jenkins-Pye for the leadership she gave to this ministry experience.

The Health Commission continued to provide helpful health information to the congregation through the
church bulletin and Constant Contact. Topics included: Heart Disease, Kidney Disease, Lupus, Men’s
Health, Mental Health, Optometry, Cancer Awareness, Diabetes and Healthy Eating. Excerpts from Dr.
Joseph Webster’s article “What is Minority Health and Why is it Different?” were also shared. During
October, Cancer Awareness Month, members and guest healthcare professionals made brief presentations
during worship services that focused on cancer illnesses and offered proactive measures to guard against
            them.
