Way to Work
3. Show the children a large picture of a Roman soldier or dress someone
up in a toga
or show some other DVD excerpt to capture the children’s attention.
Find out what the children already know about the Romans.
4. Explain that this is a history project, then talk about history as ‘His
Story’. Refer to the verses above.
3. Explain that we are going to compare the Roman Empire with the Kingdom
of God.
Create two lists on the board showing the differences between a kingdom
and an empire. (‘Empire’ comes from the Roman word ‘imperium’ meaning
‘power’ or ‘authority’. The Kingdom of God is where Jesus rules.)
Eg Roman Empire Kingdom of God
Has an emperor Has a king
Worshipped gods Worshipped God

Limited scope Worldwide

Empire fell Kingdom is eternal
4. Go through the worksheet with the children using the answers at the
bottom of the sheet to fill in the blanks.
Answers: past, future, happen, King, obeyed, prophets, Romans,
worship, Empire,
collapse, Kingdom, kings
5. Let the children use the internet or books to find out more about the
Romans, see pictures, etc.
7. Let them colour the title page. Give the verses in Acts as homework if
time is short.
