Page 9 - FOUNDATIONS FOR LIFE
P. 9
Discuss with the children what kind of person they would like to be.
4. Divide the children into groups to write words which would describe Jesus’
character. Share back after a set time. Colossians 1:15
5. Discuss how we can change when we see ungodly traits in our lives. Talk about our
‘Invisible Friend’ the Holy Spirit who can help us to change.
6. If Desired, show excerpts from ‘Chariots of Fire’ showing good character traits.
7. Review and conclude the lesson by sharing about the project for this term, giving out
the altars for each child to pin up near their desk/office. Explain how these will be used
and let the children pray for God to change them to be more like Jesus.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
It is hoped that the children will be especially open to the Holy Spirit this term, recognising
the fact that none of us are perfect but we are all being changed to be more like Jesus; it is
a life-long process. We can learn from, and encourage, one another.
ALTARS
Each child is given an altar on Week 1 to pin up near their desk or office. The list of the
nine character traits would be listed in a letter to the parents (example given). This will
hopefully encourage the children to seek to outwork the facets of character at home and at
school. When such occasions are noted, the child is given a coloured sticker (a star or dot)
to put on the relevant stone on their altar.
When they have three stickers on one stone they can colour it in. The idea is for every child
to have their whole altar coloured in over the course of the term. Children can recommend
each other for stickers too.
