                    Used observation to accurately predict a solar eclipse.

            2.      Hericlides


                    Studied the rotation of the earth.


            3.      Aristarchus

                    Observed that planets rotate around the sun.

            4.      Archimedes  287-212 BC


                    Realised that an object placed in water displaces the same volume
            of      water as itself.  He was so excited by his discovery that he ran
                    down the street shouting, “Eureka!” which means, “I’ve found it!”


            5.      Aristotle  384-322 BC

                    He wrote the principles of scientific observation, “Look carefully
            then   form your theory.” He was occasionally wrong eg he thought that

            goats  breathed through their ears!
