Lesson 1
GOD’S AMAZING LANDSCAPES
Truth to Teach (Source)
Genesis 1:9 ‘And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one
place, and let dry ground appear. And it was so. God called the dry
ground “land”, and the gathered waters he called “seas”. And God
saw that it was good.’
Psalm 95:3-6 ‘For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his
hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to
him. The sea is his and he made it, and his hands formed the dry
land.’
Romans 1:20 ‘For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his
eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being
understood from what has been made, so that men are without
excuse.’
The world has purpose through creation and is not a chance happening.
To compare the views of evolutionists and creationists.
To define and recognise a variety of landscapes, locally, nationally and internationally.
To learn to recognise and explain some physical/human processes, explaining how
they can result in changes of environment.
Way to Work (Means)
Equipment: Maps of the local area, atlases, globe, DVD
1. Show a video/DVD of different landscapes (Readers’ Digest, National Geographic).
Define ‘landscape’ as ‘the shape of the world around us’. Identify the landscapes on
the video/DVD. Alternatively, show pictures from old calendars, postcards,
photographs or pictures from books.
2. Ask the children how they think the world came into being. Discuss the evolutionist,
intelligent design and creationist theories. Illustrate the evolutionist theory by
crumbling a piece of paper in an attempt to make an aeroplane. Keep reshaping it
