THE LIFE CYCLE OF A SALMON
        WEEK 4

        Truth to Teach (Source)

God will do anything for His children – even sacrifice the life of another.

John 10:11 ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.’

John 15:13 ‘Greater love has no-one then this, that he lay down his life for his friends.’

        Way to Work (Means)

                     1. Review other life-cycles and what we have learned about God.

                     2. Introduce the children to salmon. Explain the life cycle of a salmon, using
pictures/ video/ other relevant resources. Involve the children in acting out the
                              story of a Scottish salmon.

                     3. Why did God do it this way?

                                     • Swimming all the way to the sea
                                     • Overcoming obstacles on its difficult journey upriver
                                     • Dying after spawning

This is God’s wisdom. We can trust Him that He knows best.

                     4. What kind of love do we see here? It is a love where the parent fish lay
down their lives so that new life can come. Amazing!

Can you think of another situation in which someone laid down his life

so that we might be born again?

‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down
his life for the sheep.’ John 10:11

Where one person lays down his/her life for another to live is the
greatest type of love there is. It is what Jesus has done for us, and we see it
reflected in the life-cycle of a salmon.

                     5. Worksheet.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

The fact that God was willing to sacrifice his Son for us will have been compared to
        the sacrifice made by salmon.
