Multiplication (1) 3b:3
Games for 2 players
You need: copy of RM 7 cut up into pieces; calculator; counters in two
colours; scissors; envelope
What's the product?
o You each need one set of cards
from RM 7 (one set is shaded;
one is plain).
Place your set in a pack, face downwards.
D In turns, take a card from the top of your
pack and tell your partner the product.
He or she checks this on the calculator.
D If you are correct, leave the card
face upwards. If you are wrong, place
it at the bottom of the pile.
D Continue until all the cards are
face upwards on the table.
D Play again, but swap packs of cards.
Higher product
D Use the envelope and counters,
choose a different colour each.
D Place all the cards in the envelope.
D Without looking, each of you
can take out one card.
D The player with the higher product
wins a counter. (If the product is
the same, you both win.)
D Continue until all the cards
are used up. Whoever has
more counters wins the game.
D Play again, but now whoever
has the lower product
wins a counter each time.
D What other rules for winning
can you think of and try?
