ENJOYING WORDS OVERVIEW – SPRING TERM
Weeks 1-10
Truth to Teach (Source)
Heart concepts: Truth, wisdom, justice, order, creativity
1. We have received an inheritance of old, old stories, among which are gems of wisdom for the discerning.
2. God has given man the ability to create fictional characters and to have them relate and function in a
particular setting.
3. God’s creation reveals order and we assimilate new information in an orderly way.
Story tellers may choose to draw attention to a character through telling a fable. This is a brief story
with animal characters.
To familiarise the children with more of Aesop’s fables
To learn to be discerning with the use of fairy tales
To look at folk tales from other countries
To compare believable and unbelievable stories
To introduce the use of non-fiction books
To appreciate the order and usefulness of contents, index, glossaries and dictionaries
