Forces – week 8

When one object moves over another there is a force called ________________
between them. Friction tries to stop the object moving.

Try these experiments to find out more about friction.

               Experiment 1

Aim: To see if a number of objects slide down a tray at the same speed.
Apparatus: Tray, rubber, sharpener, stone, paper clip, other small items.

Method: Line the objects up along the tray then tilt the tray slightly. Do the
objects all slide at the same speed? Why is this?

               Observations: ______________________________________________________________

              ___________________________________________________________________________

Put sandpaper on the tray and try the experiment again. What happens?

               Observations: ______________________________________________________________

               ___________________________________________________________________________

               Experiment 2

Rub your hands together for one minute. What do you notice?

               Experiment 3
Write with a pencil on some rough paper for one minute. What happens to the lead?

Write on the back all you have learned about friction from these experiments.
