THE VIKINGS IN BRITAIN

        Truth to Teach

Matthew 28:19 ‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, ….’

                  • Alfred shares the Gospel with Guthrum

                  • To study the domestic life of the Vikings

                  • Story of Toki, the Viking boy

        Way to Work

        1. Review the previous lessons on the Vikings.

        2. Read the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 and explain how Alfred shared the
Gospel with the Viking, Guthrum, who became a Christian as did other Vikings. Discuss
how many people we know from other countries living in our land at present with whom

we could share the Gospel. Peace came to England as a result of Alfred’s God-given
               wisdom and courage.

        3. Let the children search around the room for the answers to the top half of the
               worksheet. (See separate sheet)

        4. Gather back to share findings. Tell a fictional story of Toki in his long-house. Refer to
the quern, fire-place, bench, table, cooking pots, oil lamp, weaving loom, wooden chest,
               etc.

        5. Let the children use reference books to draw a picture of the inside of a Viking long-
                       house.

Story: Yoki was lying in his bed in the family long-house …..

        6. Some children may like to make up a play of two Viking children on a typical day of
               their lives.

        7. Review the lesson.
