Lesson 13-15 News-sheet
• New Gate – opened in 1887, the only gate not built by Suleimen
• Jaffa Gate – the road to Jaffa used to start here
• Zion Gate – near the Jewish part of the city
• Dung Gate – it is wide enough for a man and his donkey. Most of the refuse
from the city is taken to the Kidron Valley.
• Golden Gate – through which the Jews think Jesus will return to Jerusalem
• Lions’ Gate – a pair of stone lions guard it
• Herod’s Gate – it was mistakenly thought Herod lived nearby
The Western Wall is all that remains of the second temple. Pilgrims gather to pray there
and place messages in the cracks in the stone.
