Research Support
It takes time, skills, networks, ethical guidance, visibility and funding for researchers and innovators to do what they do best: conduct impactful research, innovate and commercialise. Providing this support is the role of the Directorate Research Support within the Portfolio Research, Postgraduate Studies, Innovation and Commercialisation.
Locating grant funding for Unisa researchers
Given the funding crunch for university research in South Africa, the Directorate Research Support (DRS) is ever-vigilant for grant-funding opportunities for Unisa researchers from external funders.
From March to December 2024, the Directorate informed researchers of 32 external grant opportunities. This led to the submission of 124 applications, amounting to requests of R72 million, an increase of R3 million from the R69 million requested in 2023.
