Convenor
The convenor is a volunteer elected by fellow members of the specific chapter. This individual assumes a leadership role in chapter activities and acts as the central point of communication between the Alumni Relations Office, other alumni in the region, prospective students and potential donors.
The alumni chapter convenor is elected during a formally constituted meeting/ online election of the alumni chapter organised by the Alumni Relations Division. Alternatively, the Alumni Relations Division will provide chapters with an online platform to conduct elections of a convenor.
Eligibility Criteria
The nominee must
• hold a degree, diplomate or certificate from Unisa;
• have access to information and communication technology such as a computer, email,
cell phone, telephone and internet facility;
• must be contactable on a regular basis;
• must be a resident of the chapter geographic area;
• must have at least five years working experience, and
• if the chapter convenor relocates to a new region, the person with the second highest
votes at the election will resume as convenor.
Convenor Responsibilities
• Ambassador of the University in a region or country.
• Develops, in conjunction with the chapter executive committee, the regional or
country alumni chapter business plan.
• Ensures that the alumni chapter in a region or country is fully functional.
• Supports the University by initiating networking and fundraising opportunities.
• Promotes initiatives, like legacy scholarships, among alumni and the community at
large.
• Assists in updating the alumni database.
• Promotes membership of the Alumni Association.
• Communicates, in advance, the chapter alumni activities to the Manager: Alumni
Relations.
• Presides at alumni meetings of the specific region.
• Prepare reports in conjunction with the chapter executive committee to present
at the annual meeting.
• Assists the Alumni Relations Division with the coordination of events and other
related engagements.
• Provides leadership to the alumni chapter.
