Unisa technologies were exhibited at the Science Forum at the CSIR Convention centre from 4 to 6 December 2024.
An Entrepreneurs-in-Residence programme has been established to support would-be student and staff entrepreneurs.
Negotiations commenced with the University Technology Fund (UTF) to access further support for innovators from Unisa. The UTF is a venture fund focused on commercialising technology, IP and research from South African universities.
UniVentures
UniVentures provides support for Unisa innovators and entrepreneurs.
In 2024, UniVentures onboarded 10 new startups, five from the Unisa Innovation Challenge and five through pitches made to the DITTC. This brought the total number of start-ups supported since 2019 to 42.
10 new startups
Unisa startups created eight prototypes during the year. The total
number of prototypes created since 2019 is 32.
Three startups have developed commercial products that are available in the market.
Ten of the start-ups supported through UniVentures raised a total of R 3.1 million from external sources.
