In this module we will cover:
• event management
• facility management
• customer service.
Event management
Successful sporting events do not just happen. A lot of planning and preparation
is needed for the event to be one that the whole community can be proud of. If
events are not well planned, problems will show up during and after the event. This
module covers the skills required to successfully plan and implement sporting
events.
Some common causes of sporting events being unsuccessful include:
• not appointing an event coordinator
• not keeping written records
• not monitoring event progress
• poor communication
• ineffective committees
• poor relationships with local authorities
• ineffective or insufficient staff/volunteers
• no first aid
• poor promotion
• poor facilities (for athletes, spectators, officials, etc.)
• poor catering/hospitality
• no backup plans for bad weather
• not enough toilets, bins or access to shade and water
• poorly behaved spectators
• poor location.
