legends. We discovered that the island of
Hawaii is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean
and has no neighbouring countries nearby.
We also discovered that the islands of Hawaii
we made from volcanoes of which two of
them are still active today, Mauna Loa and
Kilauea. In amazement to discovered we
created our own erupting volcanoes. We
also learned about the history of the
Hawaiians, from King Kamehameha’s rise to
power to the only Queen Liliuokalani that
gave her fortune to the education of the
Hawaiian by creating a school called
“Kamehameha School.” The K1 especially
enjoyed learning the traditional Hawaiian
dance, the Hula dance as it is a form of
storytelling. The children participated in a few
dances such as “Hukilau”, which tells a story
about going fishing, “Pate Pate”, translated
to “long drums” is a happy dance of
dancing together, Lastly we dance and sang
the famous Hawaiian song written by Queen
Liliuokalani entitled “Aloha Oe.” Hawaii has
left a great impression that we can’t wait to
visit the islands.
