41 Even then he tried hard to make something of the position he was in but was unable to
do so and Southampton SMBC (Jason McLean, Callum & Paul Goodman) won the com-
petition in style 5-4. It was an emotional end to a tiring day. All the finalists donated their
prize money to the Charity fund. In his winding up speech Jason thanked Banister Park for
their special help in the hosting of this event this year and also Hampshire County Short Mat
BA for the loan of their equipment.

Devon County Report
The County Pairs Finals day was staged at the
ISCA Centre, with 32 pairs, having qualified for
the finals after the usual round robin stages in
the morning. In the afternoon the knock out
stages took place and was played all the way to
the final.
The final was played between Ann & Dave
Summers (Totnes Creameries), Paul Pomeroy
and James Trott (Musbury) with the Musbury
pair eventually winning the title.
The following day it was the turn of the
Under 18’s, which saw 7 players descend onto
ISCA. Each player played each other in a round County Pairs Winners
robin with the top two at the end of this compet- James Trott & Paul Pomeroy
ing in the final. At the end of the round robin
stage Benny Bass (Uffculme) topped the group, whilst Sean Woodley (Christow) was second.
In what was a high quality final Benny Bass held
his nerve and retained the title that he secured last
year. Both Benny and Sean will represent Devon in
the National Under 18’s.
On the same day ISCA was also hosting the
National Mixed Fours. With 8 teams there was 2
groups of four with the winners and runners up
competing in the semi finals.
The Final was played between Sidbury and
Christow and was a final that was dominated by
Sidbury who didn’t lose a single end. The Sidbury
team of Carol Osbourne, Kim Wright, Malcolm
Sheen and Eric Pavey will now go to the Nationals.

The ESMBA have announced the
national allocation that each county will
receive. Devon have four places in the
Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.
Whilst Devon have been allo-
cated 2 places in the Under 18’s and
one place in the Mixed Fours. In the
New Over 55’s Pairs Devon have been Mixed Fours Winners Eric Pavey, Kim Wright,
allocated 3 places. Carol Osbourne & Malcolm Sheen
