no change, Hertfordshire led on 33
points, Suffolk were next best on 30,
and Sunderland were third on 26, with
Norfolk closing in on them, just a point
further back. Suffolk were only able to
match Hertfordshire in the final round of

Paul Daniels
Ed - Congratulations to Paul Daniels and Carpet Bowls. This is the way to present an end of season’s
activities, showing a sport at its best and seeing the whole gambit of its activities. This is the way
Short Mat should be presented but I’m afraid the three P’s always interfere. Personalities, Politics
and Possession, which leads to a lack of two more P’s Publicity and Progress.
There are many officials affected by the three P’s but thankfully not all. Professional sports of
all kinds are also afflicted, especially personalities and politics. I have over 60 years of involvement
in amateur sport and I watch what happens in professional sport and many other non-sports activities.
Most of us are competitive animals and competition in any activity drives a lot of people, sometimes
to the detriment of their activity but not always, as dead wood and dictators are sometimes difficult
to get rid of.
