32 In a game which went to the last end it was Boggs who
won clinching a world bowls spot. The triples also featured
a high quality field with 10 who had won Irish titles in var-
ious categories. The last 8 saw P Hanlon lose to T Vance,
P Beattie beating M Sproule, N Gamble defeating S Mc-
Sorley and J Hand overcoming N Haire.
In the semi finals Beattie defeated Vance and Gam-
ble edged out Hand. The final was a tight affair with Gam-
ble’s triple just stating ahead with single shots determining
most ends. It was the Gamble trio who picked up the world
spot with an 8-4 win.
Triples Winners
Nigel McMullan Nigel Gamble In the rinks, last season’s winners, C McHugh’s rinks
and Edwin Irwin were favourites to defend their title despite having already
secured a
world spot. They came through the first 2 rounds to
meet the rink skipped by current Irish singles winner,
A Leckey who came through 10 - 9. In the other half
Cork’s C Middleton defeating P Duff while R Cling-
ham beat the highly fancied R Stubbs. Middleton lost
out to Clingham in the semi final to meet Leckey.
The final was such that predicting the winner
was difficult as the lead changed regularly. In the end
it was the highly experienced and multi title winners
A Leckey, J Wilson, D J Wilson and E Campbell who Rinks Winners
came out on top 7 - 5 to claim the final world place. Johnnie Wilson, Andrew Leckey,

Crosshaven Bowls Club staged the final session of their Ladies and Men’s Sin-
gles Competitions in Colaiste Muire Sports Hall, Crosshaven, Co. Cork. The
Tournament was once again a great success with 102 entries in the Men’s event
and 88-entries in the Ladies event and attracted enteries from clubs over a wide
area of the Cork Zone. The large crowd of spectators present for the final ses-
sion were treated to many excellent games throughout the afternoon.
Betty Kenneally is the top Lady
In the Ladies Final Betty Kenneally of Douglas GAA started with a confident three but Sacred
Heart’s Geraldine Keane replied with a two, only to see Kenneally score another three for a 6
- 2 lead. Geraldine then scored three successive singles to get back to 5 - 6 but a single and
a four took Betty into an 11 - 5 lead and she had one hand on the trophy. Geraldine did her
best with a single and a two but ran out of ends leaving Betty Kenneally as an 11 - 8 winner.
Adrian Tanner is the Victor
In the Men’s Final, Conna’s Adrian Tanner fired off a four on the opening end and followed this
up with a single before Vinny O’Donnell of Mitchelstown got into the game with a single. How-
ever with another four on the seventh end Tanner had built up a 12 - 2 lead. Vinny took the
final three ends but could only close the gap to 6 - 12 leaving Tanner as a comfortable winner
The Umpires on duty for the final sessions were M. O’Shaughnessy, S. O’Driscoll, M.
Boyde, D. Foley, E. Mills, A. Ruxton & S.O’Suileabhain. The prizes were presented by Keith
Middleton the Crosshaven Club Captain and the Perpetual Trophies were presented by Hazel
Foley to Adrian Tanner and by Hazel Payne to Betty Kenneally.
