CHESHIRE VILLAGES INDOOR BOWLING TOURNAMENT 2018 – 19
Once again, we have arrived at the final of a Cheshire Villages Indoor Bowling Tournament
and once again Lach Dennis are the successful team. We are convinced that having a bar
in your village hall is a great attraction in keeping a robust team!
Way back, in October 2018, the competition started with the fewest teams ever; down
to three leagues throughout Cheshire. The viability of the tournament was in doubt. The keen-
ness of those few teams was in no doubt and we went ahead. The Davenport Golf Club (and
bar) was able to provide two teams, Green and Yellow, and proved to be a great example.

The semi-finals were tight. Davenport (Yellow) beating Rixton and Lach Dennis were the vic-
tors over Guilden Sutton. Unfortunately, the final was not as close and Lach Dennis were in
an unbeatable position after winning the first four pairs games.
Are you involved with a short mat team in Cheshire? The event is fun and we would
love to see more teams enjoying themselves with us. If you can manage a little competition,
then for more details, contact chrismbanfield@btinternet.com

FIXING FENDERS
FIXING FENDERS
Uplands Bowls Club were interested to read the article about fixing fenders.
For several years our club has used two pieces of 4/5” per mat of white off-
cut square drain pipe, which we got free from a local plastics company. Half
a square drainpipe produces a right angle, with one side going under the
mat and the other up against the fender, which has worked very successfully.

ED- the image above is not an actual image of the fenders involved but gives a clear idea
of where the pieces would be places at each end of the fender, with the carpet basically stopping
the plastic moving and thus holding the fender in place. The lower image is simply a piece of
right-angled plastic to give an idea of what it was. It was Window Board Rigid Angle 50mm x
50mm x 5m - White, although any right-angled stuff will do.
