MENS FINALISTS DONEGAL
At the interval only 4 shots separated the teams with Armagh up in 2 rinks. Rosie Cassells won
10 - 7 over Isobel Robb, Daphne Marshall defeated Sarah Johnston 10 - 5 while Foyle kept in
touch with Doreen Stevenson winning 10 - 6 over Irene Doone. Most believed that Foyle's change
had gone with Armagh expected to dominate after the break but as is often the case the expected
does not materialise. It was Foyle who made the running quickly overturning the half time deficit,
Valerie Witherow, who later picked up the national ladies triples title had a convincing 11 - 5 win
over the highly experienced Pauline Beattie while Lynn Hamilton had a 14 - 7 win over Irene Dou-
glas. Armagh's only success was a 7 - 3 win by Lisa Douglas over Suzanne Finlay. Without being
disrespectful to Armagh it was good for the ladies game and for the Foyle zone to seen the under-
dog coming out on top.
In the Men's Plate Final, Mid Ulster who made an unexpected early exit from the Boomer
Cup met local rivals South Tyrone scoring a narrow win in a game they were clear favourites.
Many would have fancied Mid Ulster to have a comfortable day but it turned out to be a closely
contested game which went to the last end.
