LADIES FINALISTS ARMAGH
LADIES FINALISTS ARMAGH
As had happened in last year's zone final Mid Ulster made a stuttering start with only Damian
McElroy's rink threatening to build a big lead as they had done in last season's final. They played
John Carson's rink and had it not been for 4 inspired last bowl deliveries by Carson the Mid Ulster
rink would have been out of sight with Carson saving a 2 on the first end, a 5 on the second, a
four on the sixth and a three on the eighth to keep the score to 9 - 3.
On mat 2, Malcolm Cunningham's rink struggled against an inspired Damian Campbell who
rink was in control from the outset. While losing 10 - 4 the Mid Ulster rink did not get the break on
several ends. On mat 3 Mark Wilson's rink had a tight struggle with Colin Dunwoody finishing 9 -
8 up with the South Tyrone rink picking up 4
shots on the last 3 ends leaving the game tied
at 22 each at half time. On mat 1, Keith Mc-
Culloch's rink played a South Tyrone rink in
which Enis Hamilton kept his rink in the game.
South Tyrone could have got off to a
great start had it not been for an excellent de-
livery by McCulloch. They could have been
well ahead but for some excellent deliveries
from Hamilton, one in particular which saved
a 5.
The Mid Ulster rink came out 9 - 6 on
top. On mat 3 Alan Paul's rink also had a tight
game with Paul Hagan and while they led
throughout they could never get away finish-
ing 10 - 7 up. With
both games over,
Colum McHugh was Oriel Convenor Gerry O'Hare receives the
2 ends behind on Men’s Zone Trophy from IIBA President
mat 2. Going into the Flo McNally
9th end Mid Ulster
were 9 shots up but conceded a 4 to close the gap and leave the game
still undecided.
The South Tyrone rink skipped by Ian Hobson only managed one
shot on the last end to finish 10 - 8 up. While Mid Ulster will have been
From disappointed at not contesting the main final, winning the Boomer Cup,
From
Seamus Kyne the British Isles top team and the plate was a good return for 2 seasons.
