Discussion:
*When we disobey the Big Doggs in our lives there can be costly consequences. What are some reasons why we fail to listen and obey?
*Give examples of your similar experiences. Then have your students share about a time when they experienced a similar situation, and should have listened to their Big Dogg.
*Explain how the Big Doggs in our lives can come from many different sources. (family members, coaches, teachers, etc.)
B.) Sense of Belonging- Being Connected
We as humans need to be connected, just like a pack of dogs. We are social beings. Whether it’s belonging to a family, community, team, or religious group, we need to be part of something. This gives us purpose, security, and feelings of inclusion.
The group you hang out with or team you play with can make a significant impact in your life while growing up.
Scenario: Joining the Team (or not...)
Speedy was the fastest runner in the neighborhood dirt lot. He was the star football player in the Hound-dog Hood. Speedy could out-run everyone, and scored most of the touch-downs in the dusty lot after school. He dreamed of someday being a pro.
One day Champ, the Canine Coach was watching this group
of rascals play when he noticed the special talent Speedy had. Champ asked Speedy to join the school’s football team. He explained to Speedy that he had the potential to be a Superstar, but before any of that could happen, Speedy had to get his grades up at school. He also had to work hard at football practice and show up on time every day.
