Speedy chose to take the easier route and remain playing in the dirt lot because there were no grade requirements, it didn’t matter if he showed up late, and he didn’t have to practice at all.
Since Speedy never got his grades up, he also never finished high school. He never got the opportunity to play at college or to become a Superstar.
While playing in the dirt lot was fun, it didn’t provide the avenue and guidance necessary to achieve Speedy’s dreams of being a pro.
When he chose to play unguided in the dirt lot with the Home- Dawgs rather than join the school’s team, he didn’t have to do
the hard work, but he missed out on having Coach train him and lead him to the big leagues.
